Hand-carved solid wood with resin poured into the seams, so light travels through the grain and along the filled channels rather than only leaving the front of the fixture. The wood and the resin are doing the diffusing between them, which is why the effect cannot be reproduced in a moulded shade.

Every piece is carved individually, so the grain pattern and the way the resin catches light differ from one to the next. That variation is the whole appeal of a hand-made fixture: two ordered together will be recognisably a pair without being identical.
