Wave Resin Acacia Serving Board

Acacia wood with a resin inlay poured to look like a breaking wave, so the board has a decorative face and a working one. Acacia is the right timber for this: dense, closed-grain and naturally water resistant, which is why it is used for boards in the first place.

The resin section is what makes it a serving piece rather than only a chopping board. Cheese, bread, fruit or charcuterie laid across the wood with the wave running beneath reads as a considered presentation without any styling effort.

Two designs: green waves is the cooler and more oceanic, pink side waves the warmer and softer. Use the wooden section for cutting and keep knives off the resin, which scratches more easily than the timber. Hand wash and dry immediately rather than soaking, and oil the wood occasionally to keep it from drying out. Each board is finished with a food-safe oil that brings out the grain of the acacia against the smooth resin, and re-oiling every few months keeps the wood from looking dry or pale. At a size that suits a small gathering rather than a full buffet, it works equally well as a centrepiece on its own or set alongside two or three smaller dishes.
