Travertine and Walnut Pendant

Natural travertine paired with solid walnut, both left with their own texture rather than polished to a uniform finish. The stone is porous and banded, the wood is grained, and neither is trying to look like anything other than what it is.

That honesty is the wabi-sabi part. Because both materials are natural, every fixture carries a different pattern and no two are identical, which is the argument for real stone and solid timber over moulded imitations of them.

Its scale suits a single point above a bedside table, a small dining table or a kitchen island rather than lighting a whole room. Two wood finishes: natural wood is lighter and lets the stone lead, brown is deeper and balances it more evenly. Because stone adds weight, use a ceiling fixing rated for the load. Travertine is a softer stone than granite or marble, so it is sealed before leaving the workshop to resist everyday marking, though it should still be kept away from very wet surfaces. The walnut collar is solid rather than veneered, which is why the grain runs continuously around the fixture. Because each piece of stone is cut individually, delivery times can vary slightly more than for a moulded fixture. Installation should be carried out by a competent person.
