Wabi-Sabi Stone Wall Lamp

A natural stone base with a smooth wooden overlay, left with the texture and irregularity the material arrives with rather than polished flat. That acceptance of imperfection is what wabi-sabi means in practice, and it is why no two of these fixtures look identical. Dust the stone gently rather than scrubbing it, since the surface is naturally porous and can mark under pressure. Wipe the wooden overlay with a barely damp cloth only, and dry it straight away to keep the two materials weathering at the same rate.

The light is soft and low, escaping between the stone and the wood rather than projecting into the room. It reads as a glow around an object rather than a lamp with a bulb in it, which is what makes it work at eye level beside a bed or along a hallway without any glare.

Two wood finishes. Walnut is deeper and more formal, and gives more contrast against the pale stone. Natural wood is lighter and calmer, and reads as a gentler pairing. Both suit a bedroom, a living room or a hallway where natural materials already appear elsewhere. Installation should be carried out by a competent person, with the circuit isolated before work begins.
