TriBlocker Triangle Shade Sail

A triangular sail in waterproof polyester, tensioned between three fixing points to throw shade across a patio or a seating area. The triangle is the practical shape: three points are easier to find and tension than four, and the sail stays taut without sagging in the middle.

Waterproof rather than merely shade-rated, so it sheds a summer shower instead of soaking through and dripping. Fixed with a slight slope, water runs off one corner rather than pooling in the centre, which is what eventually stretches and ruins a flat-tensioned sail. The slope needed is slight, usually no more than one corner dropped a little lower than the other two, so it rarely looks obviously angled from below.

Three sizes from 3 x 3 x 3 m up to 6 x 6 x 6 m, in beige or grey. Beige is warmer and softer against planting; grey is cooler and more architectural against modern paving. Tension it firmly and check the fixings through the season. Take it down before winter storms rather than leaving it up. Grey suits paving and glass balustrades better than a garden with a lot of planting, where beige tends to sit more comfortably against the greenery. Loosen the tension slightly if snow settles on the fabric, since a heavy load pooling in the centre stresses the seams.
