Sunset Projection Lamp

A single focused LED throws a circle of graduated colour onto a wall or ceiling, running from deep orange at the centre out to red at the edge. Moving the lamp closer or further away changes the size of the circle and how sharply the gradient falls.

The effect is closer to real dusk light than a coloured bulb manages, because the colour shifts across the projection rather than filling the room evenly. Angled into a corner it reads as light coming through a window; aimed flat at a wall it becomes a soft graphic circle, which is why it turns up so often behind photographs. Because the beam is a single LED rather than a ring of smaller lights, the gradient stays smooth without banding or visible dots even close up, which is where cheaper projection lamps usually give themselves away. The plastic housing is matte rather than glossy, so it disappears in a darkened room rather than catching stray light itself.

The head angle adjusts, so the same lamp can wash a ceiling or drop the circle onto a bed. It runs from USB, so it works from a plug adapter, a laptop or a power bank, and it is small enough to pack. Set it where the light has a clear run to the surface, since furniture in the way breaks the gradient.
