A circular bamboo frame that mounts flat to the wall and holds a shelf across its centre. The circle is what makes it decorative rather than purely functional: it breaks up a wall of straight lines and reads as an object in its own right even when there is nothing on it.
Bamboo is the right material for this shape. It bends without splitting, takes a smooth finish, and stays light enough that the shelf can be fixed to plasterboard with appropriate plugs rather than needing a stud. The natural tone warms a wall in a way painted MDF cannot. Because the frame is a full circle rather than a bracket with a shelf bolted on, it can be hung slightly off level without the shelf itself looking crooked, which forgives an imperfect wall. The bamboo is left with a low-sheen oil finish rather than varnish, so it ages rather than yellows.
It suits a trailing plant above all, where the foliage spills over the lower curve and completes the circle. Books, small ceramics, a candle or a framed photo all work equally well. Handmade, so the exact tone and grain vary between pieces. Keep it out of a bathroom, since bamboo holds moisture, and load it evenly rather than at one edge.
