Rotating Wood and Aluminium Sconce

A solid wood base with a slim aluminium body that rotates on its mounting, so the beam can be turned through the wall rather than fixed at the angle it was installed. That single adjustment is what lets one fixture serve as a reading light, a wall wash and a night light at different hours.

The materials are doing deliberate work. Wood softens the fixture and keeps it from reading as hardware; aluminium keeps the arm thin and dissipates heat so the LED holds its output. Together they land in the Japanese-minimalist register the design is aiming at: warm, quiet, nothing decorative added on top.

Tricolour light switches between warm, neutral and cool from the fixture itself, so the same lamp works for atmosphere in a bedroom and for clarity in a study. Two finishes: natural wood is the lighter and calmer, walnut the deeper and more formal. The rotating head moves through roughly 180 degrees on a stiff hinge, so it holds whatever angle it is set to rather than drifting back over time. Aluminium sections are anodised rather than painted, which keeps the thin arm resistant to scuffing where it is handled most, right at the head. Installation should be carried out by a competent person, with the circuit isolated at the consumer unit before work begins.
