A patterned fabric shade on a polished golden base. The shade is the feature: printed florals soften the light on its way through and put a faint warmth into the room that a plain shade cannot, and the pattern is visible from outside as well as lit from within.
Fabric behaves differently from glass or metal. It absorbs a little of the light and diffuses the rest, so the glow is gentle and never sharp at the edges. That makes this a lamp for the end of a day rather than for working under: a bedside table, a hallway console, the corner of a living room where a low light is doing the atmosphere.
Four shade patterns, numbered one to four, each with a different floral scale and colourway. Smaller repeats read as texture from across a room; larger repeats read as pattern and hold more attention. The golden base is common to all four, which is what ties them together if you buy two for either side of a bed. Fabric fades in strong sun, so a corner away from a south-facing window keeps the print even over the years. Dust the shade with a soft brush rather than a cloth.
