A cone turned from natural timber, mounted close to the ceiling with the light directed down through the open end. The cone shape is what focuses the beam: light gathers inside the taper and leaves in a defined circle rather than spreading sideways.

Timber is unusual in a ceiling fitting and it changes a room noticeably. It warms the light on reflection off the inside of the cone, and it gives the ceiling something with grain and texture rather than another painted disc. In a pale room it is often the only warm element overhead.

Warm white is the right default for a bedroom or a living space, where the light is part of the atmosphere. Cool white is clearer and better in a hallway or a workspace where you want definition rather than mood. Choose at purchase, since the LED is integrated.
