A flat glass disc mounted close to the wall, with ripples running across its face like the base of a pressed tumbler. The ribbing is what does the work: it refracts the light into bands rather than letting it out as a single flat circle, which is the detail that reads as Art Deco rather than generic.
Because the fixture is shallow and round, it sits comfortably in places a projecting sconce cannot. A narrow hallway where a shoulder would catch anything deeper. Either side of a bed, where a pair frames the headboard. Above a console or a bathroom mirror, where the disc lines up with the shapes already on the wall. A shallow disc is also the safer choice at the top of a stair or along a landing, where anything projecting is in the way.
Three glass finishes with quite different effects. Smoke grey is the moodiest and reads as almost sculptural when unlit. Cognac warms the light noticeably and suits a bedroom or a snug. Frosted white diffuses most evenly and is the practical choice where the sconce needs to light as well as decorate. Installation should be carried out by a competent person. Keep the glass free of dust with a dry cloth; ribbing holds it in the grooves and dulls the refraction.
