Petal Ball Ceiling Lamp

Acrylic petals arranged into a sphere on a gold-finished frame, so the fixture reads as a flower head rather than a lamp. Light escapes between the petals as well as through them, which fills the ceiling around it with a fine scatter rather than a single pool.

The scale is compact, which is what makes it work in the places it is designed for: a corridor, an entrance, a balcony or a small bedroom, where a larger decorative fixture would crowd the ceiling. In a hallway a run of two or three reads as a deliberate sequence.

Three colours behave differently. Crystal clear is the brightest and most neutral, and lets the gold frame carry the character. Green is the most decorative and works in a room that already has colour. Rose red is the warmest and boldest of the three. Installation should be carried out by a competent person, with the circuit isolated at the consumer unit before work begins. The acrylic petals are moulded individually and clipped to the gold frame, so a damaged petal can in principle be replaced rather than requiring the whole fixture to be swapped. Dust settles in the gaps between the petals more than on the surface, and a soft dry brush reaches those gaps better than a cloth. A single fixture over a small dining table reads as a centrepiece rather than a background light.
