Smoked Glass Tube Wall Lamp

A tall tubular shade in smoked glass, lit from within so light escapes from both ends at once. The result is a vertical band of glow rather than a pool, which suits a wall that needs height rather than brightness: a hallway, a stairwell, the space beside a tall doorway.

Dual direction is what makes it work at eye level. Because the light travels up and down the tube rather than out into the room, there is no glare when you pass it, and the wall behind gains a soft gradient. In a bedroom a pair either side of a bed frames the headboard without lighting the room the way a downward sconce would.

Three glass finishes. Smoke grey is the moodiest and reads almost charcoal when unlit. White diffuses most evenly and gives the brightest output. Blue is the most distinctive and best used where the fixture is meant to be noticed rather than blend in. Fitted vertically it reads as a line of light, though the same dual output works horizontally above a mirror or a picture, where it becomes a wash across the frame. Smoked glass shows fingerprints, so handle the tube by its collar while fitting. Installation should be carried out by a competent person, with the circuit isolated before work begins.
