Flying Saucer Pendant Light

A wide shallow disc with softly rounded edges and a contrasting colour on the underside, so the fixture reads one way from across a room and another from beneath it. That contrast is the design, and it is why the two-tone versions are worth choosing over a single colour.

The shallow profile spreads light wide rather than dropping it in a narrow column, which suits a dining table where you want faces lit as well as the surface. It also means the fixture sits closer to the ceiling than a deep shade of the same width. That wide spread also softens shadows across a table setting, which is useful if the fixture is the main light in the room rather than one of several.

Two diameters. At 30 cm it works over a small table or in a run of two along an island. At 40 cm it becomes a single fixture over a dining table for four to six. Three colourways: red is the boldest, green red the most unusual, beige red the softest. Hang the bottom around 75 to 85 cm above a tabletop. Installation should be carried out by a competent person. Wipe the underside occasionally, since the contrasting colour there shows dust more readily than the top surface.
