Scandinavian Metal Dome Pendant

A soft dome shade in painted metal with a natural wood accent at the collar. The dome contains the source completely, so light falls in a defined circle below with no glare from a seated position, which is what makes it usable over a table rather than only decorative.

Nine colours is an unusually wide range for a pendant, and it changes how the fixture should be used. Black, grey and white are the neutrals and work in a run of three along an island. Blue, green, yellow, pink, cyan and orange are the decorative options, best used singly or as a matched pair. The painted finish should be dusted rather than wiped with anything damp, since moisture can dull the colour over time. Over an island, three in a row spaced evenly along the worktop reads more considered than fixtures bunched towards one end.

The wood accent is what stops the coloured versions looking like children's fittings: a painted dome on its own is a toy, grounded by timber it becomes a design decision. Over a table, hang the bottom around 75 to 85 cm above the surface. Installation should be carried out by a competent person, with the circuit isolated before work begins.
