The body is a small abstract figure wearing a wide brim, and the brim is the shade. It is a one-joke design that survives longer than most because the proportions are handled seriously: the silhouette is clean, the base is weighted, and nothing about it is fussy up close.
Light comes down from under the brim, so the source is hidden and the pool below is soft-edged.
