Ribbed Glass Sphere Pendant

A rounded glass shade with fine vertical ribbing running down its face. The ribs refract the light into narrow bands as it leaves the shade, so the glow arriving on a table or a worktop has structure to it rather than falling as one even wash.

Three diameters cover different jobs. At 15 cm it is an accent, and a run of three above an island reads better than one. At 20 cm it works as a single fixture over a small dining table. At 25 cm it becomes the main event above a larger table or in an entrance hall, where it needs the ceiling height to sit properly.

Clear glass throws the sharpest pattern and the most light. Cognac warms everything passing through it and suits an evening room. Grey is the moodiest and the most sculptural when unlit. Each combination comes in warm or cold white, chosen at purchase. Over a table, hang the bottom of the shade around 75 to 85 cm above the surface. The ribbing hides fingerprints better than plain glass, though it collects dust along the grooves, so a dry brush is easier than a cloth when it needs cleaning. Installation should be carried out by a competent person, with the circuit isolated before work begins.
