Glass Ball Nordic Pendant Light

A single sphere of tinted glass on a slim suspension. There is nothing else to it, which is why the glass has to be right: the colour runs through the material rather than being applied to the surface, so the tint deepens where the curve thickens and lightens across the face of the sphere.

Four colours behave differently once lit. Smoke grey is the most neutral and reads as almost architectural. Brown is the warmest and closest to amber. Blue cools the light noticeably and suits a bathroom or a modern kitchen. Red is the boldest and works best as a single point rather than in a run. Tinted glass takes a little more light than clear glass, so a brighter lamp is worth fitting in the smoke grey and brown versions.

Two diameters. At 15 cm it is a bedside or hallway fitting, and a cluster of three at staggered heights works well over a stairwell. At 20 cm it holds its own above a dining table or a kitchen island as a single fixture. Hang the bottom of the sphere around 75 to 85 cm above a tabletop. Installation should be carried out by a competent person, with the circuit isolated before work begins.
