Magpie Nordic Pendant Light

A slender metal frame, circular or elliptical, with a small bird perched on the rim. The light source runs along the frame rather than sitting in a shade, so what you see from below is a ring of glow with a silhouette resting on it. It is a quiet idea, executed without any of the fuss this sort of thing usually attracts.

The frame shape changes the room it suits. The circle is self-contained and works above a bedside table, a hallway or a small dining table. The ellipse stretches horizontally and reads better over a longer table or a kitchen island, where it fills the width without needing a second fixture. The bird sits on the rim rather than inside the ring, so it stays in silhouette from below and does not cast a shadow across the table.

Finishes run through gold, black with gold, and silver: gold is the warmest and most decorative, black and gold the most graphic, silver the coolest and most restrained. Warm white is the right default for bedrooms and dining rooms; cold white suits a workspace or a hallway. Installation should be carried out by a competent person, with the circuit isolated before work begins. Dust the frame with a dry cloth now and then; the perch collects more than the ring does.
