Solid oak rather than veneered board, which is the difference you notice in the weight of it and in how the grain runs continuously across the face. The lines are plain Scandinavian: a straight rail, clean edges, no visible hardware once it is mounted, and nothing that dates it to a particular year. The rail takes real weight without flexing, so it copes with a winter coat and a full bag hanging from the same hook, and the fixings stay concealed once it is mounted.

It works hardest in the places where storage has to look like part of the room. An entrance hall, where it holds keys, a bag and a coat without turning the wall into a utility area. A bathroom, where it takes towels. A kitchen, for cloths and utensils. In a home office it becomes somewhere to keep headphones and a bag off the desk.

Oak darkens slightly over the first year and then holds its colour, so it improves rather than fades. Fix it into studs or use appropriate wall plugs for the surface, and load it evenly. Wipe it with a dry cloth rather than a wet one, and keep it out of the direct path of a shower if it is going in a bathroom.
