Lumopattern Solar Garden Lantern

A metal sphere pierced with a repeating pattern, lit from within so the cut-outs project across whatever is around it. The pattern on the wall or the paving is the point: the lantern itself is only the source of it.

Solar powered, so it charges through the day and switches on automatically at dusk with no wiring and nothing to set. That makes it usable anywhere in a garden, including the far corners where running a cable would never be worth the effort. Because the light comes from inside a closed sphere rather than an open bulb, it is also more forgiving of a knock or a gust of wind than an exposed lantern would be.

Black recedes into planting and lets the projected pattern do all the work. White stands out as an object during the day and is the better choice where the lantern is meant to be seen as well as seen by. Site it where the panel gets direct sun, and where there is a wall, fence or paving close enough for the pattern to land on. On a still evening, hang or stand two or three at different heights along a border rather than in a single line, so the projected patterns overlap rather than repeat.
