Closed, it is a slim wooden slab that could pass for a hardback on a shelf. Open it and the pages fan out into a ring of light, and how far you open it decides the shape: a half-open fan throws light in one direction, a full 360 degree circle turns it into a lantern that lights a whole table. The pages lock at any angle between closed and open, holding a half-fan shape as easily as the full circle.

The pages are what make it work. Light comes from between them rather than from a single point, so it is diffused from the moment it leaves the lamp and there is no bulb to glare at. Three light modes cover warm, cool and natural tones, which is unusual at this size and means it can be a reading light as well as an ambient one.
