Adjustable LED Reading Wall Light

The point of a reading light on a wall is that it frees the bedside table. This one mounts beside the bed or an armchair and swings out on a flexible arm, so the beam lands on the page rather than on the wall behind you, and the surface underneath stays clear for a book, a glass and a phone.

The arm holds its position rather than sagging back over the course of an evening, which is where cheaper swing-arm lamps fail. Push it out to read, fold it flat against the wall in the morning, and the fitting takes up almost no depth when it is not in use. That matters in a narrow bedroom or a reading nook where a table lamp would be permanently in the way.

White or black, both in a plain matte finish with no visible fixings once mounted. In a shared bed it is the difference between reading late and turning the light off because the overhead is too much for the other person. Fixed at pillow height, the arm reaches out far enough to land the beam on a page without brushing the headboard. Installation should be carried out by a competent person, with the circuit isolated at the consumer unit before work begins.
