Turned from sustainably sourced timber and finished by hand, so the grain runs continuously around the shade and no two pieces are identical in figure or tone. That variation is the reason to choose wood over a moulded shade: it gives the fixture warmth that a uniform surface cannot fake.
Three diameters change its role entirely. At 23 cm it is an accent, right above a bedside table or in a hallway. At 35 cm it becomes a proper dining fixture over a table for four. At 45 cm it is a statement over a large table or an island, and needs a room with the ceiling height and the wall space to carry it. Two profiles, A and B, differ in how steeply the shade tapers. Timber shades also weigh more than glass or metal at the larger diameters, so check the ceiling fixing before choosing 45 cm.
Light spills downward and glows through the thinner sections of the timber, so the shade itself warms as well as the room. It suits kitchens, dining rooms and minimal interiors where one natural material is doing the work. Hang the bottom of the shade around 75 to 85 cm above a tabletop. Installation should be carried out by a competent person.
