Golden Birdlight Wall Sconce

Two golden birds perched on a slim bar, with the light source concealed behind them so the glow reads as coming from around the birds rather than from a fitting. Unlit it works as a piece of wall sculpture, which is more than most sconces manage during daylight hours.

The scale is deliberately modest. This is a decorative light rather than a room light, which makes it right beside a bed, along a hallway, above a console table, or in a bar or cafe where the fixture is part of the atmosphere. A pair either side of a headboard or a mirror reads better than one on its own on a large wall. Wired sconces need the cable route thought through before the plaster is made good, so it is worth deciding on the pair spacing early.

The LED is integrated and warm, so there is no bulb to source and no cold cast on the gold finish. Because the light washes upward and outward rather than pointing into the room, there is no glare at eye level even in a narrow hallway. Installation should be carried out by a competent person, with the circuit isolated at the consumer unit before any work begins. Gold shows fingerprints, so handle it by the bar when fitting.
