FloraFrame Hanging Planter

An iron frame that holds a plant inside a clean geometric outline, so the greenery reads as something deliberately placed rather than a pot that happens to be on a shelf. The frame does the composing; the plant supplies the colour and the movement.

Two shapes and two finishes give four quite different results. The oval is softer and works with trailing plants, which spill over the lower edge and break the outline. The round is more graphic and suits a compact plant that sits inside the circle. Black is the most architectural against a pale wall; gold is warmer and reads as decorative in its own right.

It mounts on the wall, which is where it earns its place: a kitchen with no free worktop, a bedroom with a narrow windowsill, an entryway that needs something at eye level. Hanging a plant also keeps it out of reach of pets and away from surfaces that get wet. Iron is unforgiving about drips, so use a pot with a saucer and let the plant drain over a sink before it goes back in the frame. A trailing pothos or ivy suits the oval; a compact fern or a succulent sits better inside the round. Use fixings appropriate to the wall, and remember a watered plant is heavier than a dry one.
