Solid wood paired with natural travertine, with a pull switch on the fixture itself. Travertine is porous and banded, so no two lamps carry the same surface (expect visible mineral veining and small pitting rather than a uniform grain), and the wood warms what would otherwise be a cool stone object on the wall.
The light falls downward rather than into the room, which is exactly what a headboard light should do: enough to read by, contained enough not to wake the person beside you. The pull switch means it can be turned off from the bed without a wall switch or a wired circuit to reach.
Two variations, A and B, differ in the proportion of stone to wood and the shape of the body. Both work as a pair either side of a bed, and both suit a room already leaning towards natural materials and quiet colours. Wipe the wood with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away, and dust the travertine gently rather than scrubbing it, since the stone is naturally porous and can mark under pressure. Installation should be carried out by a competent person, with the circuit isolated at the consumer unit before work begins.
