A hand-finished walnut dome with a smooth stone disc set beneath it. The two materials are doing opposite jobs: the walnut is warm and grained, the stone is cool and uniform, and the gap between them is where the light escapes.

That construction means the light is reflected off the stone rather than projected downward, so it arrives soft and wide instead of as a defined pool. Over a dining table it lights faces rather than only the tabletop, which is a meaningful difference at a meal. The stone disc can be lifted clear for cleaning, though a dry microfibre cloth is usually enough to keep both materials free of dust. Over a narrow table, a single pendant centred above the surface reads better than one pushed towards either end.

Warm white flatters both materials and is the right choice for a dining room or a bedroom. Cold white is crisper and reads more architectural, better suited to a kitchen island or an entrance. Because the walnut is hand-finished, the grain differs between pieces. Hang the bottom around 75 to 85 cm above a tabletop. Installation should be carried out by a competent person. Wipe the stone disc with a dry cloth and leave the walnut dome alone otherwise, since polishing it too often can dull the hand-finished surface over time.

How high above the table should it hang?

Around 75 to 90 cm from the tabletop to the bottom of the stone is the sweet spot. That keeps the glow on the table and the fixture out of your sightline across it. The cord shortens easily at the canopy, so you can set the exact drop once it is up.

Is the stone real or a finish?

It is genuine stone, cut and polished into a disc, which is why the veining runs differently on every piece. Yours will not be identical to the photo and that is the point of buying stone rather than a print of it.

Will it be bright enough on its own?

Over a dining or kitchen table, yes. It is designed as the light you eat under, with a soft spread rather than a spotlight. For a large open plan room, people usually run it as the feature light and keep a lamp or two in the corners for depth.

How do I clean it?

The stone disc lifts clear, so you can wipe both sides with a soft dry cloth and set it back. The walnut wants nothing more than a dry dust. Skip solvents and oily sprays on both and the finish stays exactly as it arrived.

Does the walnut match other wood in my room?

It does not need to. Walnut is a mid to deep brown with visible grain, so it reads as its own accent rather than a failed match to oak or ash. Most rooms look better for one honest wood tone hanging above a different one.
