Folding Portable Lantern Lamp

A telescopic shade that folds down over the body, with a wooden handle on top and a head that rotates through a full circle. Folded it is a compact lantern to carry; extended it becomes a desk lamp with a proper shade over the light.

Those two states are the point. On a desk the shade is out and the head is angled down onto the work. On a bedside it becomes a low lantern. Carried outside it folds down and the handle makes it easy to hold, which is more useful than it sounds during a power cut or on a camping trip. The telescopic shade also softens the light enough to sit on a bedside table without glare, which a bare bulb of the same brightness would not manage. Wipe the shade with a dry cloth, since the folding action means a wet cloth can leave marks in the pleats.

It runs on a rechargeable battery, so there is no cable in any of those situations. Three colours: white is the quietest, grey the most neutral, red the boldest. The wooden handle warms all three and stops the lamp reading as camping equipment. Charge over USB and expect a long evening from a full charge.
