Cleonice Travertine Pendant Light

Three materials in one fixture: travertine stone, solid wood and frosted glass, each handling a different part of the job. The stone gives it weight and texture, the wood warms it, and the glass does the diffusing so the light arrives soft rather than direct.

Travertine is porous and banded, so the stone element differs from one piece to the next and the surface catches light unevenly. That is the argument for real stone over a printed effect, and it is most visible during the day when the fixture is unlit. Wipe the frosted glass with a dry cloth and leave the stone and wood alone otherwise, since both are naturally sealed and do not need polishing. In a kitchen, keep it clear of the extractor's direct airflow so dust does not settle unevenly across the porous stone face.

Two wood finishes. Natural wood is lighter and calmer, and lets the stone lead. Walnut is deeper and more formal, which balances the pale travertine more evenly. Both suit a dining table, a kitchen island or a hallway with natural materials elsewhere. Because stone adds weight, use a ceiling fixing rated for the load. Installation should be carried out by a competent person, ideally while the ceiling fixing is checked at the same time given the added weight of the stone.
