Striped Canvas Double Hammock

High-density cotton canvas in a woven stripe, at 260 x 150 cm and rated to 200 kg. Canvas behaves differently from parachute fabric: it is heavier and less packable, but it breathes well, holds its shape rather than wrapping around you, and lies flatter for reading.

At double width there is room to share or to lie diagonally on your own, which is how a hammock is most comfortable. The weave is dense enough not to mark skin after an hour, which is a common complaint with rope hammocks and open-weave designs. The stripe also runs consistently across both sides of the canvas, so there is no obvious wrong side if it gets turned around while you are setting it up.

Check your anchor points before every use and keep the hang low enough that a fall would be a short one. Trees should be living and thick enough for the load; posts should be properly set rather than pushed into soft ground. Children should use it with an adult nearby. Let the canvas dry fully before storing, and bring it in over winter. Store it somewhere ventilated rather than sealed in a bag while slightly damp, since canvas left folded and wet is prone to mildew.
