Bauhaus Eclipse Wall Lamp

A round metallic disc mounted slightly off the wall, with the light escaping from behind it. The disc itself never glows: what you see is the halo it casts on the plaster around it, which is where the eclipse reference comes from.

That indirect construction means there is no glare from any angle, so it can sit at eye level in a hallway or beside a bed. It also means the fixture reads as a solid object during the day and as a ring of light after dark, which is two quite different appearances from one piece.

Two diameters. At 10 cm it is an accent, and a run of three along a hallway reads as a sequence. At 15 cm it becomes a single statement on a feature wall. Three finishes: black is the most graphic, gold the warmest, chrome the coolest and most reflective. Because the light source sits behind the disc rather than beside it, there is no bulb to change from the front; the whole unit is serviced from the wall side. Chrome shows fingerprints more readily than the black or gold finishes, so it suits a wall that is not brushed past often. Installation should be carried out by a competent person, with the circuit isolated before work begins.
