Bauhaus Donut LED Lamp

A perfect ring, lit around its inner edge, that stands on a surface or mounts on a wall. The Bauhaus reference is in the reduction: a single geometric form, no ornament, and the light doing the work rather than a shade or a fitting.

Being usable two ways is what makes it unusually flexible. On a desk or a nightstand it stands as a sculptural object with a warm glow at its centre. On a wall it becomes a lit circle, which works either side of a bed, above a console, or as a repeated element along a hallway. Neither use looks like a compromise.

The glow is amber and low rather than bright, so it is a mood light rather than something to read by. Orange is the warmer and more decorative of the two finishes and reads as a colour choice; white is quieter and lets the form carry the piece. Wall mounting should be carried out by a competent person if it is being wired in; used on a surface it simply plugs in. Wipe the ring with a dry cloth and avoid solvents, which can cloud the lit inner edge. Keep the cable tucked behind whatever it stands on so the circle reads cleanly from the front.
